چکیده

Background Cardiovascular morbidity is a well known late complication of chemotherapy, for example for treatment of testicular cancer. In addition, development of a combination of overweight, hypertension and abnormal lipid profiles has been observed in these patients suggesting increased risk of developing the metabolic syndrome and diabetes. The early effects of chemotherapy on myocardial function and metabolic profile are largely unknown. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to assess short-term effects of chemotherapy in testicular cancer on myocardial function in relationship with alterations in metabolic profile.

Critical role of complex III in the early metabolic changes following myocardial infarction.

AIMS The chronically infarcted rat heart has multiple defects in metabolism, yet the location of the primary metabolic abnormality arising after myocardial infarction is unknown. Therefore, we investigated cardiac mitochondrial metabolism shortly after infarction. METHODS AND RESULTS Myocardial infarctions (n = 11) and sham operations (n = 9) were performed on Wistar rats, at 2 weeks cardiac ...

High myocardial 18F-FDG uptake after chemotherapy in the presence of left ventricular dysfunction as well as 3-month later with no left ventricular dysfunction

Diffusely increased glucose metabolic activity in the right and left ventricles using 2-deoxy-2-(F-18) fluoro-D-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDGPET/CT) and global left ventricular hypokinesia at echocardiography can be evident in acute myocarditis. But, there has been no case report that the ventricular 18F-FDGuptake remains unchanged even ...

Tracing ischemic memory by metabolic pathways: BMIPP and beyond

Myocardial ischemia (MI) resulting in infarction is an important cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Acute ischaemia rapidly impairs myocardial contractile function. Myocardial dysfunction persisting for several hours after transient non-lethal ischaemia, eventually resulting in full functional recovery is termed as myocardial stunning. Hibernation is now thought to be...

A journey in doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity with emphasizing on the role of Connexin 43 and Sirtuin-3

Cancer has become a major health problem worldwide. The reported incidence of new cancer cases is estimated at 19.3 million, with a mortality rate of 10 million in the world in 2020. There are some approaches for cancer treatment such as chemotherapy, neoadjuant surgery, hormone therapy, and radiotherapy. Chemotherapy is an aggressive form of chemical drug therapy meant to destroy rapidly growi...

Testosterone Replacement Modulates Cardiac Metabolic Remodeling after Myocardial Infarction by Upregulating PPARα

Despite the importance of testosterone as a metabolic hormone, its effects on myocardial metabolism in the ischemic heart remain unclear. Myocardial ischemia leads to metabolic remodeling, ultimately resulting in ATP deficiency and cardiac dysfunction. In the present study, the effects of testosterone replacement on the ischemic heart were assessed in a castrated rat myocardial infarction model...
